How to play
- Each heart you take is 1 point. The queen of spades is 13. Take all 26 and you shoot the moon: you score 0, and the other three score 26 each. When someone reaches 100 at the end of a hand, the lowest score wins.
- Each hand opens with a pass of three cards. The pass goes to the left (West), then to the right (East), then across (North), then there is no pass. At PASS THREE CARDS TO WEST: name three cards (QS AH KH). Their positions on the panel work too (1 5 6).
- The 2C leads the first trick. No points may be played on it unless you have nothing else. Follow suit if you can. Nobody can lead a heart until someone plays one.
- At YOUR PLAY: name one card (7H, 10D, QS) or its position under your hand. WOPR plays its three seats. It says each trick, for example YOU 2C, WEST 6C, NORTH 5C, EAST 4C. WEST TAKES IT.
- After the last trick WOPR shows this hand’s points and the scores. At NEXT HAND? press Enter to deal again, or type LEAVE to stop.

Tips for winning
- Pass the queen, king and ace of spades, and your high hearts. The exception is when you hold several low spades to cover them. WOPR’s seats pass the same kind of cards, so expect some back.
- Empty a short suit early, by passing its cards or by playing them. Once you hold no card of a suit, you can discard the queen of spades or a high heart whenever someone leads that suit.
- If you do not hold the queen, king or ace of spades, lead low spades. WOPR’s seats play the highest card that still loses. So a seat with the queen and no lower spade may have to play it.
- WOPR’s seats never try to stop a moon shot. With many high hearts and spades, try to take all 26. The seats play under your high cards, and give you their hearts when they cannot follow suit.
